Funeral Interpreting

Presented by:

Rev. Shawn Carey

When: September 14, 2013 9:00am-5:00pm

Description: Funeral interpreting can seem intimidating, but it does not need to be! During this workshop you will have an opportunity to develop your skills so that you can enter a funeral interpreting situation with confidence.  Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how to deal with their own stress, grief, as well a clear understanding of the Catholic funeral rites and strategies for interpreting. Workshop topics include the pastoral implications of funeral interpreting, perspectives on death, stress and grief awareness, and understanding Catholic funeral Rites. A panel of interpreters and ASL concepts to consider when interpreting in a funeral setting will also be discussed. Participants will have the opportunity for hands on activities during a “mock” funeral, as well as time for questions and answers. Please note this workshop will be presented in ASL.
